Most muralists make you fill out a form to find out. We publish our prices. Here's exactly what a hand-painted wall costs and why.
Ask ten New York muralists what a wall costs and you'll get nine "it depends" and one quote that arrives a week later. Industry guides put professional mural work at $20 to $50 per square foot, with interior work sometimes quoted as high as $75. Those ranges are real — but they're so wide they tell you nothing about your wall.
So here's what we actually charge at Art by Scotto, published, by style:
| Style | What it looks like | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Black or single-color outlines, shapes, lettering | $15/sq ft |
| Standard | Outlines plus blocked-in solid color | $20/sq ft |
| Intermediate | Block color with blended lights and darks | $25/sq ft |
| Advanced | Fully blended, photorealistic rendering | $30+/sq ft |
| Mixed media | Any style plus dimensional elements | Quoted per project |
A typical restaurant feature wall — say 13 feet wide by 8 feet tall — is 104 square feet. At the Advanced tier that's $3,120 for a fully rendered, one-of-one painting your customers will photograph every night it's open. The same wall in clean Basic line work: $1,560.
"For what most shops quote for a vinyl wrap, you can own an original painting."
The $20–$50 figures you'll find on national cost guides usually include agency margins — a broker books the wall, then subcontracts whoever's available. Art by Scotto is an artist-led studio: Anthony designs every wall and his hand is on every piece, with no broker in the middle. That's how walls for Tony Boloney's (as seen on Shark Tank), Mera NYC, Skorpios, and Casa Lamia Resort in Costa Rica came in under the agency market. One honest caveat that applies to every muralist: final pricing can shift with wall texture, condition, accessibility, and design complexity — which is why everything is quoted in writing, after free concepts, before work begins. See the full tier breakdown on our mural menu, or send your wall dimensions and get free concepts this week.
